Ch. Calon Ségur (0.75 L)
Moderate aging on the rim but less mature looking than the 1962. The nose is sweet, feminine and ‘soft’. A touch of eucalyptus: not as complex as the Talbot 1961 tasted alongside but quite charming. The palate is also quite sweet, more Saint Emilion than Saint Estephe. Very smooth mature tannins with low acidity. A similar style to the Montrose 1961 but with less breeding and complexity. Properly stored bottles should last another couple of years. A good 1961, but not in the same class as Montrose or Cos d’Estournel. Tasted July 2003.
