L’Aventure Sociando Mallet de Jean Gautreau (0.75 L)
Every year, the cellar master of Sociando-Mallet set aside three barrels from each vats to have a specific idea of the quality potential of each plot.In 1995, Mr Jean Gautreau and his team decided to select the fifteen best barrels to make a blend named ‘Jean Gautreau’. The choice of barrels is made during a blind tasting at the end of barrel ageing and exclude any press-juice. The selected barrels are blended and put into special shape bottles, brown and taller than the ones used for Sociando-Mallet.“Jean Gautreau” is made with more Cabert Sauvignon than Sociando-Mallet. The blend is usually around 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. The total volume equals to only 1% of the production of the estate, so “Jean Gautreau” has not any influence on the quality of Sociando-Mallet, in a way or the other.’Jean Gautreau’ is just a different blend of the estate’s main wine. It is another version of Sociando-Mallet, another way of apprehending it.
