Grands Echezeaux (0.75 L)

BH:Much like the ’93 La Tache (see multiple reviews herein), I confess to having decidedly mixed experiences with the ’93 GE as well, with some bottles showing brilliantly and others being tight to the point of an almost surly austerity and revealing next to nothing. I expect more of the latter given the very large format but to my surprise this was entirely civilized with its expressive and perfumed nose of Asian tea, spice elements, dried flowers and plenty of earth character. There is lovely complexity to the serious, dense and powerful big-bodied flavors that are still moderately firm but not hard while delivering excellent length. While this could be drunk now I would be inclined to continue to hold it if you’re fortunate enough to own this in magnum or jeroboam formats. In sum, 1993 is a very good if not genuinely great vintage for the domaine’s Grand Ech. Tasted only once in jero.
